SNHU Once Again Named a Best Employer for Women by Forbes

Manchester, N.H. (August 27, 2024) Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) is once again recognized by Forbes as one of the “Best Employers for Women” in the U.S. in 2024, according to a recent survey released by the magazine. This prestigious award is presented by Forbes and Statista Inc., the world-leading statistics portal and industry ranking provider. This is the third consecutive year SNHU has made the list and ranks #74 among the nation’s top 600 employers.

"At SNHU, creating a flexible work environment where everyone has a sense of belonging, is cared for, and can thrive is a top priority and we are proud to have that work recognized by Forbes,” said Heather Baram, Senior Vice President and Chief People Officer, SNHU. “Receiving this honor a third year in a row speaks volumes about SNHU’s commitment to empowering women at every level of the university all the way up to our board chair and new president.”

The Forbes list of America’s Best Employers for Women was conducted through an independent survey by Statista that included more than 150,000 women working at companies in the U.S. with at least 1,000 employees. According to Forbes, survey respondents were asked how likely they were to recommend their current—and previous—employers, and if they’d recommend any employers they knew through their industry or through family and friends who work there.

Those surveyed were also asked to rate their current employers in such areas as:

  • Working environment
  • Pay equity
  • Parental leave
  • The company’s handling of incidents related to sexual misconduct and discrimination

Diversity among top executives and board of directors also plays a role in the ranking. In recent years, SNHU reduced the size of its Board of Trustees and increased diversity and gender balance. Currently, 9 of 15 members — including the board chair— are women, while women make up more than 62% of university leadership — including SNHU’s new President, Lisa Marsh Ryerson.
