SNHU Named a "Great College to Work For" Ten Years in A Row

Manchester, NH (July 17, 2017) - For the tenth consecutive year, the Chronicle of Higher Education has recognized Southern New Hampshire University (SNHU) as one of the nation's "Great Colleges to Work For." SNHU, the only recipient from NH, is one of four institutions in the country that has earned the distinction every year for the past decade, and is among 79 institutions that received the award this year.

SNHU also earned Honor Roll status for the sixth consecutive year for scoring well across multiple categories, including Collaborative Governance; Compensation & Benefits; Confidence in Senior Leadership; Facilities, Workspace & Security; Professional/Career Development Programs; Respect and Appreciation; Supervisor/Department Chair Relationship; Teaching Environment (Faculty Only); and Work/Life Balance.

All full-time faculty and staff were invited to participate in the survey and nearly two-thirds offered feedback. Based on the top three responses, SNHU employees feel supported by their colleagues and embraced for who they are as individuals, understand how their job contributes to the University's mission, and believe SNHU actively contributes to the community in a positive way.

"This recognition from the Chronicle of Higher Education for the tenth consecutive year is a direct reflection of the hard work and dedication of the thousands of SNHU faculty and staff who work tirelessly every day to help our students succeed," said Paul LeBlanc, president, SNHU. "I'm particularly proud of our top three scores, all focused on inclusion, mission, and service. We have a strong sense of community and a culture that is unlike any other in higher education."

Danielle Stanton, Senior Vice President and Chief Human Resources Officer at SNHU, added, "Over the last ten years, SNHU has experienced immense growth and change, but the fact that we've continued to receive this recognition year-after-year is a reflection of our commitment to our mission, students, and employees."

The "Great Colleges to Work For" survey is one of the largest and most respected workplace recognition programs in the country for colleges and universities. Now in its tenth year, it recognizes the institutions that get top ratings from their employees on workforce practices and policies.

"Ten years in, the Great Colleges to Work For distinction is well-known by academic jobseekers as a sign that an institution's employees are valued and given opportunities for growth even when they face financial constraints," said Liz McMillen, editor of The Chronicle. "Any college or university that's on the list is showing that they emphasize one of their most valuable assets: their faculty and staff."

The survey results are based on 232 applications from participating colleges and universities. The results were comprised from a two-part assessment process: an institutional audit that captured demographics and workplace policies, and an anonymous survey administered to faculty, administrators and professional support staff.

The primary factor in deciding whether an institution received recognition was employee feedback. The survey asked staff and faculty nationwide to assess their employers' leadership, career opportunities, compensation, and overall work environment.

To administer the survey and analyze the results, The Chronicle worked with ModernThink LLC, a strategic human capital consulting firm that has conducted numerous "Best Places to Work" programs.
