Frequently Asked Questions
Can you get a degree online in Iowa?
Yes you can. There are nearly 2,000 Iowa residents who are either currently pursuing their online degree from SNHU, or are alumni of SNHU’s online programs.
One reason so many students turn to SNHU for their online degree is that there are 200 degree programs to choose from. Also, as a leader of online education since 1995, SNHU offers the flexibility to tailor course schedules around the demands of your daily life.
Is SNHU accredited in Iowa?
Southern New Hampshire University is accredited by the regional accreditor the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE), which is one of the regional accrediting bodies recognized within the United States by the U.S. Department of Education. This means, as an SNHU student — no matter what state you live in — you’ll be earning a degree from a respected university that is recognized nationwide for meeting accreditation standards.
It’s important to note that institutions are not accredited by state. However, regional accreditation, from accreditors such as NECHE, is widely recognized across the United States.
SNHU also carries specialized accreditations for particular programs.
What is the easiest degree to get?
While we wouldn’t characterize any college degrees as “easy,” there are different types of degrees and academic programming that each bring their own distinct level of difficulty.
Associate degrees are typically viewed as the entry-level degree and usually take approximately 2 years, or less, to complete. Bachelor’s degrees are normally the next level, and are usually completed in about 4 years. That said, if you’ve earned an associate degree, most if not all of those credits could be applied to your bachelor’s degree program, reducing the amount of time it takes to earn your bachelor’s.
Beyond that, graduate degrees like a master’s or doctorate are often the highest level of degree and a way to specialize your knowledge and expand career opportunities.
You should choose a degree at a level based on where you are on your educational journey, in a field that corresponds with your interests and career goals.
Are any online degrees respected?
Yes. If your degree is earned from an accredited institution – whether online or in-person – that means you’ll be earning a degree from a respected university that is recognized nationwide for meeting accreditation standards.
Advances in technology have also enabled online programs to essentially mirror the academic experience you’d find attending your college classes in person. And many employers know that motivated individuals who want to further their careers often have day-to-day responsibilities that make attending college on-site not possible.
This, and the fact that SNHU has been at the forefront of online learning for three decades, means that your online degree would be highly regarded and respected.
What is the best online degree to get?
The best online degree to get depends entirely on where you are on your educational journey and what your career goals are.
For some, an online Master’s in Business Administration is the best degree to get, while for others, it may be a bachelor’s degree in communications because they’re pursuing a career in media.
Make sure your degree aligns with whatever professional field you’re interested in, and that it’s from a respected institution like SNHU.
What is the quickest degree to get?
Again, the type of degree you’re pursuing directly affects how long it will take to complete. Many students choose to complete their associate degree in 2 years, and then transfer those earned credits to an online bachelor’s degree program—allowing them to earn both degrees over the course of 4 years.
Another important aspect of how long it will take is whether you complete your course work on a full-time or part-time basis. SNHU offers a variety of academic delivery models, which allows students to earn their online degree at a pace and on a schedule that works best for them.
Military experience could also help you earn your degree faster (and for less money). SNHU, for example, accepts credits for professional military education (PME), on-the-job training (OJT) and college courses. Combined, that could result in up to 90 credits toward your bachelor's degree – meaning up to 75% of your program could be complete before you even get started at SNHU.
