Frequently Asked Questions
Can you get a degree online in Kansas?
You sure can. More than 2,000 Kansans are current SNHU students or graduates already. Whether you're in Kansas or anywhere else across the country, you can complete your coursework in any of our more than 200 programs online.
SNHU has offered online degrees since 1995 and we work hard to make sure they flexible and affordable enough to fit your life.
Is SNHU accredited in Kansas?
Southern New Hampshire University is accredited by the regional accreditor the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE), which is one of the regional accrediting bodies recognized within the United States by the U.S. Department of Education. This means, as an SNHU student — no matter what state you live in — you’ll be earning a degree from a respected university that is recognized nationwide for meeting accreditation standards.
It’s important to note that institutions are not accredited by state. However, regional accreditation, from accreditors such as NECHE, is widely recognized across the United States.
SNHU also carries specialized accreditations for particular programs.
Is it OK to get a degree online?
Yes, it's perfectly OK to get a degree online. More people are doing it all the time because the flexibility it offers is unmatched. At SNHU, virtually all of our programs are presented asynchronously. That means there are no set class times. You'll have weekly deadlines to complete assignments and discussion posts, but when you do those is up to you.
If you're a night owl, there's nothing stopping you from working on a paper at midnight. Busy day at work or your babysitter unexpectedly cancels? No problem. You're free to find the time that works for you.
And if you're an active-duty military learner or spouse, our flexible online courses can empower you to continue your program even through deployment or PCS moves.
Is it cheaper to get a degree online?
Yes, sometimes it can be more affordable to study online. Every student's financial situation is specific to them so nothing's guaranteed, but our mission is to make education possible to as many people as we can – that includes financially.
To do that, at SNHU, we offer several ways to reduce the total cost of attending. First and foremost, we accept up to 90 transfer credits in our bachelor's programs – that's 3/4 of the credits needed to graduate, which helps save time and money before you even start your program. Once you submit your academic transcripts, we'll also complete a free evaluation to determine which specific credits you've earned can be transferred.
We also accept some credits you may have earned in the military, as well as credits earned through tests like College-Level Examination Preparation (CLEP) exams, which sometimes cost less than $100.
Do online degrees hold the same value?
If you have a degree that you earned online, you are a college graduate. SNHU is accredited by the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE), which means we meet specific standards of quality and have the tools and resources required to help students succeed.
