Frequently Asked Questions
Can you get a degree online in Louisiana?
Absolutely! Getting an online degree means that you can complete your coursework from anywhere in the world as long as you have a reliable internet connection.
Is SNHU accredited in Louisiana?
Southern New Hampshire University is accredited by the regional accreditor the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE), which is one of the regional accrediting bodies recognized within the United States by the U.S. Department of Education. This means, as an SNHU student — no matter what state you live in — you’ll be earning a degree from a respected university that is recognized nationwide for meeting accreditation standards.
It’s important to note that institutions are not accredited by state. However, regional accreditation, from accreditors such as NECHE, is widely recognized across the United States.
SNHU also carries specialized accreditations for particular programs.
Are any online colleges worth it?
Getting your degree online can allow you to build your education around your schedule, instead of the other way around. This flexibility makes online degree programs worth it for many students who may not be able to pursue their education otherwise.
SNHU offers more than 200 career-focused online programs to choose from, so there are plenty of options to find the right degree program that makes sense for you.
What is the fastest degree to get online?
Different degrees have different credit requirements which can impact how quickly you're able to finish them. Certificate programs and associate degrees, for example, can often be completed in less time than an online bachelor's degree or master’s degree.
But how long it takes to graduate isn’t based only on the requirements of that degree. It can also depend on how many credits you are able to transfer or how many terms you complete each year. At SNHU, there are 6 terms for undergraduate programs and 5 terms for graduate programs offered each year. The more terms you complete each year, the sooner you may be able to finish your degree.
Do employers take online degrees seriously?
While we can't speak for all employers, it’s worth noting that a degree from an accredited institution - whether earned online or in person - meets rigorous quality standards.
The perception around online degrees has changed a lot in recent years, and accredited, online universities like SNHU can be an important step in your educational and professional journey.
Is online college harder?
Both online and in-person degrees come with their own benefits and challenges, but there are many services that can support you through those potential challenges. Your SNHU academic advisor and academic support services can help you throughout your degree program.
Is online college cheaper?
Online degree programs are often more affordable than on-campus options. In addition to generally lower tuition, completing your degree online can also help you save money on things like housing, transportation or childcare. This affordability is one reason that many students might choose to attend an online college over an in-person one.
As a private, nonprofit institution, SNHU offers some of the lowest online tuition rates in the nation. Plus, our team works closely with students to help lower the cost of college even more. For example, we'll help evaluate your transfer credits (up to 90 for a bachelor's degree and 12 for a master's). We'll also see if you qualify for scholarships and grants, and explore employer tuition assistance opportunities if they're available.
