Frequently Asked Questions
Can you get a degree online in South Dakota?
You sure can. SNHU has learners in all 50 states, including nearly 600 SNHU alumni and current students from South Dakota. With over 200 programs to choose from and decades of experience offering a flexible and affordable education online, SNHU is here to help you reach your goals.
Is SNHU accredited in South Dakota?
Southern New Hampshire University is accredited by the regional accreditor the New England Commission of Higher Education (NECHE), which is one of the regional accrediting bodies recognized within the United States by the U.S. Department of Education. This means, as an SNHU student — no matter what state you live in — you’ll be earning a degree from a respected university that is recognized nationwide for meeting accreditation standards.
It’s important to note that institutions are not accredited by state. However, regional accreditation, from accreditors such as NECHE, is widely recognized across the United States.
SNHU also carries specialized accreditations for particular programs.
Can you do 100% online college?
Absolutely. At SNHU, you can work toward your degree anywhere with a computer and internet connection. In fact, some students at SNHU complete their coursework while abroad or traveling. Although you can explore in-person internship positions and other experiential learning opportunities as an online student, most of our programs can be completed entirely online.
Is an online college degree worth it?
The answer to this question will be a matter of your personal opinion, but many of SNHU's online graduates have noted that their degrees helped them reach their goals. And if you're already working or juggling other responsibilities, the flexibility of online learning might be the only way to fit college into your schedule.
Is it cheaper to go to college online or on campus?
It's often more affordable to attend college online than in-person. Students learning on a college campus are often required to pay additional expenses and fees that aren't applicable to online learners.
There are also several ways you can reduce your costs. For one, if you've previously earned college credits, you may be able to transfer them to SNHU. We accept up to 90 transfer credits toward a bachelor's degree – that's 75% of the credits you need to graduate.

Is it harder to do online college?
Without scheduled class times, SNHU's online courses allow you to complete your schoolwork when it's convenient, submitting assignments on their due dates each week. This model allows you to work around your busy schedule, but to succeed, you need to stay focused and motivated.
For this reason, some students have noted that online college might require extra self-discipline and good time management.
In any case, you're not alone at SNHU. From 24/7 tech support to instructors and academic advisors, you'll always have someone in your corner.
