Emergency Notification
January 16, 2025
Dear SNHU Community,
This is a required notification as part of The Jeanne Clery Campus Safety Act.
We have been made aware that a member of our campus community has been diagnosed with tuberculosis (TB). The individual is receiving appropriate treatment and is not currently on campus.
SNHU’s Wellness Center is working in coordination with the New Hampshire Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) and will follow all guidance provided. In accordance with state and national routine protocols, DHHS has initiated their investigation to rapidly identify any person who may be at risk for TB infection. DHHS will notify you and discuss next steps if you are identified as having had close contact with this individual.
Tuberculosis Facts
- Tuberculosis (TB) is an infectious disease that is spread in the air by coughing, singing, or talking.
- Persons who breathe in air containing TB bacteria may become infected.
- TB cannot be spread by touching surfaces, handshakes, or other casual contact.
- Not everyone infected with TB bacteria becomes sick. Tests are available to determine if someone exposed was infected.
- A person who is infected but does not show any symptoms has what is called “latent” TB infection (LTBI). People with latent TB infection are not infectious and cannot give TB to others.
- There are safe and effective medications available to treat and prevent TB.
- Additional information about TB is available on the CDC website as well as the DHHS website.
If you have questions regarding your personal health, please contact the Student Wellness Center or your health care provider.
We are committed to protecting the health and safety of the SNHU community. If there are any updates on this situation that impact the SNHU community, we will provide them to you as needed.
Thank you for your attention,
The Office of Public Safety
